For example, iron can show two valencies, $2$ and $3$ in the compunds iron(II) sulphate ($\ce$, notice the difference that there is no plus or minus sign in valency). This works if you are using the definition of valence shell to be the outermost shell.īut it is wrong to apply the concept to determine the valency of the element, because that varies with the compound it is present in. Hence, magnesium has two valence electrons. The simplest answer is: d-block elements have number of valence electrons equal to their group number, which is equal to the number of electrons in the "valence shell". Now, the third subshell is the outermost shell with two electrons. On drawing the electrons for magnesium, you can see in the image below it has two electrons in the first subshell, eight electrons in the second, subshell and the remaining two will be in the third subshell. It has three shells and 12 electrons, which equals the atomic number of an element. The periodic table is arranged by atomic weight and valence electrons. Counting and addingĮlectrons from s, p, and d will give a total of 18 electrons in shell 3.Ĭonsider Magnesium.

The board is going to be the background for the story. You also need some kind of board in this activity. This is a similar activity to the last one, in that you use loose parts and a dice. You can give your face a name or a back-story if you like. Keep going like this, with different objects and different quantities, until you have made a crazy face. Or it might be 5 strands of hair (screws). For example, you might put four eyes (pompoms) onto the face. Then put that number of an object onto the face. To make a ‘crazy’ face, roll a dice, and see what you get (e.g. You could use a cake base, for example – you know, the round and silver ones.Īlternatively, something like a placemat or a log slice would work well also. It’s also good to have some kind of round natural object. Just basically some random assorted objects in some kind of muffin tray, or similar. They will look something like this: A tinker tray of loose parts is a fantastic tool for all sorts of DIY dice games You need some kind of dice (I use my homemade ones), and some tinker trays of loose parts. This is a great activity for combining loose parts and a dice. You can start from anywhere between 6 to 10 balls. Whack the dough subtraction game – a great way to introduce subtraction for the first time 6 is the number you start with, 4 is the number you whack, and 2 is what is left. Try writing the subtraction sentence as a group. Whatever is rolled, that is the number that everyone is going to whack! So, if you roll a ‘4’, then everyone whacks 4 balls of dough – 1, 2, 3, 4. Splat The Dough Subtractionįirst, have the children create six balls of dough. It’s a game of speed – the winner is the one that gets to the top of the piece of spaghetti first. They each have their own dice, which they roll, and fill up their own piece of spaghetti. It’s also good for problem-solving, and thinking – how many more pieces of pasta do we need to get to the top?Īnother way to play the game is for each child to have a piece of spaghetti each. This is a good activity for number recognition and also for counting. The winner is the person that gets to the top of the spaghetti and can put no more on! It’s a race to the top. They roll and place that quantity of pasta on the piece of spaghetti. That person then puts 3 pieces of pasta on the spaghetti piece. The first player rolls the dice and sees what they get. This game is nice to play in a group of about 2 to 6 players. Make a ball of playdough, and stick the piece of dried spaghetti into it, so that it is sticking up vertically.

Attacks are classified as cuts, stabs, or bashes, and many have elemental or status-inducing effects. Characters can use standard attacks or “Skills,” which are essentially magic attacks, buffs, debuffs, and status modifiers. You actually choose each character’s action prior to the start of the turn, which is useful for chaining abilities together once you figure out the turn order (you can also set battles to auto-play). While engaged in terrestrial cartography, you’ll come across various monsters in the dungeons that are fought with traditional turn-based RPG mechanics. You won’t return there too often, but it’s where the bulk of the narrative beats take place in Story Mode. The other dungeon-Ginnungagap-also plays a role. Every five floors of the main dungeon, Yggdrasil, make up a “stratum.” Each stratum has a unique aesthetic and monster pool, culminating in a big boss battle. New to the game is the Story Mode, which gives you a set party of five characters to adventure with in the various environments. The original game tasked you with creating your own heroes from numerous classes, and that’s represented in the remake in Classic Mode. If you’re unsure, there’s a demo available. To be fair, I didn’t know how much I’d like it, but I took to map-making like a duck to water. However, I should warn you that if cartography is not well within your wheelhouse, you should probably turn back now (or just use the auto-map functionality). In short, drawing detailed maps is very worth your while. Once you use a particular staircase, you can also warp between staircases. Completing large portions of the map allows you to warp between floors-which is insanely helpful. There are all sorts of helpful icons you can place on the map to point out the location of important quest items, healing spots, treasure chests, etc. Untold 2, which is a remake of the 2008 DS game Etrian Odyssey 2, is a first-person dungeon crawler where the player is tasked with literally drawing a map of each floor on the touch screen as they fight off enemies with their party of five heroes in turn-based battles. Etrian Odyssey Untold 2 might be my favorite game on the system. I beat the game, beat a bunch of post-game content, completed almost all of the quests, prepared all of the recipes, drew all of the maps, and eventually ran around killing low-tier mini-boss characters just for chuckles. The game will be released at retail and through the eShop in Europe, but it will not arrive in the region until February 12, 2016.Etrian Odyssey Untold 2, the latest in the dungeon-crawling series from Atlus, sank its hooks into me deep and quickly climbed to the top tier of my 3DS Activity Log. New changes to the Grimoire stone system let players customize their entire party as well, allowing members to use abilities from different classes.īring a Blanket – Just as in Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl and Persona Q, in addition to normal difficulty, players can choose Picnic mode for a low-difficulty experience, or veterans can choose Expert mode for a punishing play-through.Įtrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight will be released at retail and digitally through the eShop in North America on August 4. Only available in the game's Story mode, the Fafnir gives players the ability to transform into a beastly demonic form to enhance attributes and abilities - potentially turning a losing battle into a narrow victory. The Untold portion contains a new story mode featuring the Fafnir Knight and Princess Arianna along with a fixed party, voiced dialogue, and animated cutscenes.Ĭreatures of Comfort – Vastly improved game systems makes the game easily approachable for beginners, but still challenging for die-hard veterans.īrand New Additions – A brand new character class called the Fafnir. The 3DS title is basically two games in one: the 3DS update to Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard with new dungeon layouts, new graphics, and system improvements featured in Untold and the full Untold portion. Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight will be released in the west starting this fall. I got the shade C7 which I swatched in this post! It’s a lighter beige shade that looks darker in the barrel. It’s a formula that glides very easily under eyes. I prepped well prior to use because I have drier eyes but I feel like even if I didn’t it would likely still apply very well. It’s slightly thin but does have enough creaminess that you might not notice it being thin. This is a lightweight, creamy concealer that blends like butter. Sixteen hours of wear? Mmmmmmmm not really. Soft matte finish? Check! Crease-proof? Check! Blends easily? Absolutely check! Smoothing? Sure is! Full coverage? Absolutely not. Some of their marketing is spot on but a lot of is not. As per Makeup Revolution is has 16 hours of wear, blends effortlessly, has a soft matte, full coverage finish and is crease, sweat, and waterproof with a “first-to-market oil-free VTOX formula” with okra extract and hyaluronic acid! V-Tox uses algae to mimic the smoothing, line-diminishing effects of Botox. This comes in a standard barrel and has a flocked sponge applicator that’s slightly angled which gives it that fingertip look and feel during application. It’s refreshing prices have gone up dramatically with some of Makeup Revolutions’ new Spring 2023 releases. Why is that so important? Inflation my friends, inflation! The original Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer is $7 for 0.11 oz (Conceal & Hydrate is bigger at 0.45 oz for $12) which makes this new IRL Filter Finish Concealer the same price if not the same size. But one of the most important things is the fact that Makeup Revolution IRL Filter Finish Concealer is 0.21 oz for $7. This concealer is $7 bucks! $7! That’s a steal. The one thing you gotta love about Makeup Revolution is the prices. Nonetheless, I immediately purchased Makeup Revolution IRL Filter Finish Concealer and here’s my review and thoughts on it. I’m a huge fan of Conceal & Hydrate Foundation but IRL Filter doesn’t have me convinced. Make Revolution launched IRL Filter Longwear Foundation a few months ago and I purchased it upon launch bit the verdict is out if I actually like it. A lot of Makeup Revolution concealers are a miss for me sadly but it never sways me from trying them anyway! That being said, I have learned the hard way that not everything is as good as Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer. I’m a bit fan of Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer and it’s one of the reasons I race to try anything new concealer launches from Makeup Revolution. I am always really excited when Makeup Revolution launches a concealer. Makeup Revolution IRL Filter Finish Concealer ($7) is a new, incredibly inexpensive concealer that launched for Spring 2023 in sixteen shades that promises to filter blemishes, dark circles, and fine lines while providing full, breathable coverage and sixteen hours of wear. With many street locations – arcades, barcades and bars – being either closed or having capacity, social-distancing or sanitisation regulations to enforce, pinball operators were having a torrid time. With pinball design and manufacturing, machine shipments and component supply chains all being hit by the coronavirus, the summer was a quiet time for new game launches. The $7,999 price tag included a ‘white glove’ delivery and set-up service, with the game being built-to-order at the end of 2020. The heavily stylised cabinet, backbox and playfield artwork together with models of Nelson and Taarna above the two ramps and inner cabinet artwork made this a unique game aimed squarely at the collector market. Their new Heist! game comes with its own playfield module featuring an extending ball-grabbing crane which can protrude beyond the module and onto the main playfield, as well as being able to move left, right, up and down, and having an illuminated bash target at the end. The notification about the cancellation of the Deeproot Pinball launch eventĪnother manufacturer denied the ability to show their latest release to excited fans in person was Multimorphic, who are also based in Texas. With the virus spreading fast and restrictions on both travel and the size of gatherings being imposed, Deeproot bowed to the inevitable and pulled the plug nine days before the event was due to be held. Guests were flying in from around the world to assemble at Deeproot’s San Antonio headquarters on 25th March where the game and the design facilities would be shown. The timing of the release was unfortunate as the intended public premiere of Hot Wheels at the Texas Pinball Festival couldn’t take place once the show was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Īnother Texas-based event which had to be cancelled was Deeproot Pinball’s launch of their first title, Retro Atomic Zombie Adventureland ( RAZA).ĭeeproot had big plans for the unveiling of their production-ready RAZA game, having shown a prototype at the Houston Arcade Expo the previous November. We’ll have more on that later, along with your chance to vote for the Pinball News Game of the Year, but let’s begin our look back at the events of 2020 with the new titles unveiled during the year from a seemingly ever-increasing number of manufacturers. With Stern Pinball, Jersey Jack Pinball, Chicago Gaming and American Pinball all located in the greater Chicagoland area, the state-wide stay-at-home order on 21st March brought the vast majority of pinball manufacturing to a sudden halt.ĭespite that interruption and the lack of collector or trade shows, the industry restarted, new pinball titles have been successfully launched and sales of games into the home have boomed. Unsurprisingly, the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 impacted on the pinball world in many ways too. By mid-January the first tell-tale signs surfaced of what was soon to radically change many aspects of our lives and dominate media reports throughout 2020 and far into 2021. What started out as a seemingly ordinary year soon turned into anything but. At the end of last year’s review when looking ahead to 2020 we predicted, “ This is going to be quite a ride“, and by just about any measure 2020 has been an extraordinary twelve months. In Czechoslovakia it was built by Walter Engines and was known as the Pegas. In Italy Alfa Romeo Avio built both the Jupiter (126-RC35) and the Pegasus under licence, with the engine based on the Pegasus designated as the Alfa Romeo 126-RC34 with the civil version as the 126-RC10. It was used on the PZL.23 Karaś and PZL.37 Łoś bombers. Like the Jupiter before it, the Pegasus was also licensed by the PZL company in Poland. It was also used on the Anbo 41, Bristol Bombay, Saro London, Short Empire, Vickers Wellesley and the Westland Wallace. Some notable users of the Pegasus were the Fairey Swordfish, Vickers Wellington, and Short Sunderland. This gave rise to the claim "one pound per horsepower" reflecting the excellent power-to-weight ratio. This improved performance considerably from the Jupiter's 580 hp (430 kW), to the first Pegasus II with 635 hp (474 kW), to 690 hp (510 kW) in the first production model Pegasus III, and eventually to the late-model Pegasus XXII with 1,010 hp (750 kW) thanks to the two-speed supercharger (introduced on the Pegasus XVIII) and 100-octane fuel. The Pegasus was the same size, displacement and general steel/aluminium construction as the Jupiter, but various improvements allowed the maximum engine speed to be increased from 1,950 to 2,600 rpm for take-off power. īristol Pegasus fitted to a Fairey Swordfish The primary advantage was a much improved power-to-weight ratio due to better volumetric efficiency. The power of a piston engine can be calculated by multiplying the charge per cylinder by the number of cycles per second the Mercury improved both and thereby produced more power for a given size. Although having a capacity (25 L) almost 15% smaller, the Mercury produced about as much power as the Jupiter, through a combination of supercharging to improve the "charge", and various changes to increase the operating RPM. The Pegasus was designed by Sir Roy Fedden as the follow-on to the Bristol Aeroplane Company's very successful Bristol Jupiter, using lessons learned in development of the Mercury. Two Bristol Pegasus engines remain airworthy in 2010, powering Fairey Swordfish aircraft operated by the Royal Navy Historic Flight (became Navy Wings in March 2019) other examples are preserved and on public display in aviation museums. The Bristol Siddeley company reused the name many years later for the turbofan engine used in the Hawker Siddeley Harrier and which became known as the Rolls-Royce Pegasus when Rolls-Royce took over that company. Several altitude and distance records were set by aircraft using the Pegasus. Aircraft applications ranged from single-engine biplanes to the four-engined Short Sandringham and Sunderland flying boats. In contrast, by the end of production over 30,000 Pegasus engines had been built. Developed from the earlier Mercury and Jupiter engines, later variants could produce 1,000 horsepower (750 kilowatts) from its capacity of 1,750 cubic inches (28 L) by use of a geared supercharger.įurther developments of the Pegasus created the fuel-injected Bristol Draco and the diesel cycle Bristol Phoenix, both types being produced in limited numbers. Designed by Roy Fedden of the Bristol Aeroplane Company, it was used to power both civil and military aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s. The Bristol Pegasus is a British nine-cylinder, single-row, air-cooled radial aero engine.
